The history of the Mont dates back to 708 when the Bishop of Avranches had a vision of the Archangel Michel above the rock instructing him to build the abbey (Similiar to "if you build it, they will come"). He did build it and the people did come. The Mont is one of the top 10 pilgrimage locations in Europe with millions of vistors a year.
