From being there, I would say that the memorial is very....nothing. Given that the pieces have no meaning, they are just gray concrete slabs - no names, no numbers, no deeper meaning than just being placed there, the memorial does not really invoke any sort of emotion. However, I wonder if that exactly what the German government wanted by doing in this manner. The government recognizes what happened, memorialized it, but did it in a manner to not invoke any further emotion, explain what happened (is there an explaination?), or incite any further discussion. I think this memorial is exactly how they wanted it, something you could see, but would pass by and forget.
